Autometrics Leads the Way at Watkins Glen
If there’s one thing we can say about the historic Watkins Glen International racetrack in upstate New York it’s this: we love it. Site of our first Grand Am GT win in 2005, the fabled circuit has long ranked among our favorites and this June’s Porsche Club of America race weekend only added fuel to the fire with the Autometrics Motorsports team taking 7 victories, including 4 overall wins.
Mac McGehee in the #97 Mac Papers Porsche GT3 Cup took to the competitive GTC4 class with speed and consistency. Qualifying in 6th place the veteran pilot carried this speed through both of his races finishing 5th in race one and 6th in race two.
Cory Friedman in the #114 Autometrics Motorsports Porsche GT3 Grand Am Cup dominated the GTA2 class by taking overall pole position and flying to overall wins in both race one and race two. This same car is now being offered for sale by the team, though competitors should expect to see the #114 Autometrics Motorsports Porsche tearing up tracks until sold.
Chris Dooley in the #890 Porsche 996 set a quick pace in J-class all weekend with a 2nd place qualifying position, wins in both the enduro and fun race, and 2nd place finishes in races one and two.
Jimmy Martin in the #157 Porsche Cayman took two more wins for Autometrics by taking control of the H-class fun race as well as the enduro in which he shared the Cayman with Cory Friedman. Martin also showed an excellent turn of speed in the weekend’s other H-class events by qualifying 4th and then racing to a 5th and 4th in races one and two, respectively.
