Autometrics Tops Saturday Afternoon Daytona Testing
Capping a week that witnessed the completion of a new ST Porsche Cayman, the team’s expansion to two cars, and the signing of two young hotshoes, Autometrics Motorports topped the Saturday afternoon IMSA Daytona test session with the 1st and 3rd fastest cars in the ST class.
To be sure, it’s been busy around the shop and in pitlane.
“It’s been crazy,” said team owner Gordon Friedman, “but in the best possible way.” “We really pushed ourselves through the holidays to finish the Cayman. Then just this week we were able to put together the program for Remo Ruscitti and Adam Isman to run the Porsche Boxster.”
The addition meant the team had just a handful of days to reassemble the Porsche Cayman chassis, race prep last year’s ST Porsche Boxster, and then, once trackside, dial everything in.
Team regulars Cory Friedman and Mac McGehee shared driving duties in the new #24 Autometrics Motorsports / Hasting Fiberglass / Mac Business Solutions / Porsche Cayman and ultimately set the fastest time in the fourth test session.
“We’ve raced a lot of Porsches here at Daytona,” said Cory Friedman, “and we had a good idea what kind of setup the new car would respond to. But it’s still a freshly-built car with a long to-do list. Our ability to top the ST leaderboard this afternoon is really a testament to the Autometrics Motorsport crew who’ve been working through the holidays and through the night these last few days to make this happen.”
Recently-signed team drivers Remo Ruscitti and Adam Isman proved to be a potent addition to the team as both drivers used this, their first test with Autometrics Motorsports, to finish the session with the 3rd fastest time.
“We’re very excited to have Adam and Remo in the Boxster,” said Gordon Friedman. “To come here and run this well having never driven the car before is a good indication of the kind of driving talent these two young men possess.”
Autometrics Motorsports returns to Daytona International Speedway for round 1 of the IMSA Continental Sports Car Challenge on January 23rd.
