Project GT3 RS Part 3: The 4.0 Liter Comes Together
We’re not going to give Autometrics Motorsports owner and engine builder Gordon Friedman’s secrets away by describing in detail all of the tricks going into Leh Keen’s 4.0 liter engine build. What we will say is the engine build, like all of those performed here at the shop, receives the full benefit of Gordon’s 30+ years of Porsche experience as well as the best diagnostic tools available and the cleanest workspace this side of a hospital operating room.
In this space all components and tolerances are checked and rechecked. Small corrections are made to meet Gordon’s standards. Components that don’t are replaced. Special machining is performed. Then, with the utmost care all components are treated with special assembly oils and reassembled. At each step more measurements are taken, more tweaks made. Soon Leh’s 3.6 liter flat six has grown to a full 4.0 liter. It’s a beautiful process, and one that’s best represented with in photo gallery below.
